The U.S. is in the middle of a weak online gambling prohibition. The U.S. congress has enacted a new law entitled "Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA)." What this law does is allows each individual state to make up their mind on what to allow. When a state expresses their prohibition for online gambling, then it is illegal in that state. When a state does not make an expression either way, then it is completely legal to gamble in that state.
I am a business owner and Christian. Instead of prohibition, I believe, a more reasonable goal is to regulate online casino activities to examine gambling problems. Age restrictions online could be enforced successfully when given the chance. This will prevent youths from betting.
Conclusion: the US should show some courage and pass a law that regulates the online gambling industry. Legalization is the wise choice and will lift the guilt US gamers get from placing bets underground. I don't worry about what online gambling will do to the minds of gamers, why should you? A strong person will be able to make his own mind up on what to do with gambling. The best thing we can do is educate the public on how to be a strong citizen and how to make sound money management decisions. We could continue to Just Say No and legalize with mandatory internet gambling education.
